Recently, Elite Travel Magazine revealed a report on the top ten destinations that enjoyed the benefits of private jet charter flights to the Caribbean during the peak winter season. From November 2013 to April 2014, the ten destinations brought in revenue of $867 million from 12,566 flights. The number one spot went to Nassau in the Bahamas and was followed by St. Maarten and Turks and Caicos. The top three locations accounted for half of those flights and nearly $478 million in revenue.
“We continue to see the Caribbean as one of the preferred destinations for our readers, especially those traveling by private jets and mega-yachts,” added Douglas Gollan, editor-in-chief for Elite Magazine.
Below is the remainder of the list for these popular destinations. Each bringing in a large amount of revenue of their own from these affluent customer’s private jet travel.
#1 Nassau, Bahamas
With a top revenue of $278 million and nearly 4,034 flights. Nassau’s close proximity to Florida helps boost the economy, but the island also gets a good amount of European traffic.
#2 St. Maarten
Valued at $104 million for approximately 1,514 flights, St Maarten ranks in the number 2 spot. Its closeness to St. Barts helps the revenue amount, but you also see a lot of yacht owners flying in and joining their vessels in St. Maarten.
#3 Providenciales, Turks and Caicos
Coming in a number 3, Turks and Caicos earned $94 million on close to 1,374 flights. Turks and Caicos has been luring luxury travels for years with over a half dozen five star plus resorts.
#4 San Juan, Puerto Rico
Trailing close behind Turks and Caicos is San Juan with 2,276 visits valued at $88 million. San Juan received a majority of its traffic from South America as well as Europe. Gambling in San Juan is a large attraction for visitors.
#5 Abaco, Bahamas
Abaco is known for good sport fishing and high-end real estate, attaching close to 930 upper income families at about $64 million.
#6 St. Thomas
According to the magazine, St. Thomas brought in $56 million due to private charter flights. Even though St. Thomas is known to be a year round destination, nearly 160 planes are expected to arrive within the week of Christmas Eve and Jan 4th.
A popular destinations for northeastern United States, Bermuda had 654 visits valued at $50 million.
#8 North Eleuthera
Rich with historical landmarks and natural attractions, North Eleuthera came in 8th with 654 visits valued at $45 million
Dazzling beaches and friendly locals helped draw in 630 private jet visitors valued at $43 million during peak season.
#10 Grand Cayman
Rounding out the top ten list with 606 visits valued at $41 million.
