5 Beach Destinations To Hit This Memorial Day

Warm weather is just around the corner and the official kickoff to summer is fast approaching this Memorial Day Weekend. Although there are many things to do that are not on a beach, the vast majority of travelers are looking to flee the big city and find some fun in the sun. For those avid beachgoers, here are the top spots that will make sure you head back to work with more color than you left.

1. Hilton Head Island, South Carolina
The perfect destination if you are looking for a relaxed getaway, Hilton Head offers beautiful ocean views, endless shopping and a wide variety of fine-dining. The laid-back feel of the island will make any tourist feel welcome. Ditch your car and test out over 100 miles of cycling trails, or better yet, try the famous kayak tours beginning at $40 for two-hour tours.

2. Nantucket, Massachusetts
Before Magellan Jets gears up for the second straight year of its own major event, the Nantucket By Design show August 2-7, arguably the biggest event of the whole summer happens the first weekend. Over 200 boats and north of 1,000 sailors will head to Nantucket for the annual Figawi Boat Race. Recognized as one of the top sailing races around the world, the island will be flooded with tourists and partygoers looking to celebrate our veterans in style.

3. Virginia Beach, Virginia
Virginia Beach truly is one of the few places that offers attractions for every type of vacation. Children will need all their energy to explore the Virginia aquarium, state parks and miles of beaches. If those aren’t enough for adults as well, there are historical museums, prime fishing locations, and endless shops along the boardwalk. You may have to turn your weekend getaway into a week long vacation to see everything in Virginia Beach.

4. Cape Cod, Massachusetts
Although Nantucket comes to mind when you think Figawi, the boat race actually kicks off just outside the Hyannis Harbor on Saturday morning at 10:00 AM and Cape Cod has quite a party of their own. However, there’s a lot more on Cape Cod than just the party. Lighthouse tours and bike friendly routes around town make it easy to see the attractions. Fishing, crabbing and whale watching offer all the ocean fun you are sure to love. To cap off the action-packed days, fireworks go off almost nightly at the local beaches.

5. Ocean City, Maryland
The location that claims to “have it all” certainly appears that way on Memorial Day and it starts on the boardwalk that stretches just under 3 miles. Biking, walking and riding the tram are the most popular ways to get up and down the boardwalk while exploring Ocean City. Well known for its free family events, Ocean city offers movies, concerts and much more each night of the week. Above all else, make sure you check out the world famous Assateague’s wild ponies located only a couple miles outside the city.

Wherever you decide to go this Memorial Day, Magellan Jets can get you there. Our Private Aviation Consultants and FAA Certificated Flight Support team are available to make sure your only worry is what to do when you arrive at your destination.
