Hawker Beechcraft Hawker 850XP

The Hawker 850XP is a durable, reliable business jet that builds on the success of the 800XP with upgraded avionics, longer range, and increased speed. FLYING calls the 850XP “a very effective mixture of technologies,” combining proven Hawker features with smart new ones—take the addition of the 850XP’s improved winglets to the 800XP’s already strong wing design for example. The Hawker 850XP climbs faster, delivers better performance, and goes further on less fuel than its predecessor, and gets you to your destination in unparalleled comfort. Produced between 2006 and 2009, the 850XP was succeeded by the 900XP.

HAWKER 850XP FEATURES

INTERIOR

The Hawker 850XP’s eight-passenger cabin, designed with ample headroom and for maximum passenger comfort, is largely unchanged from that of the 800XP. It measures 21 feet long, 6 feet wide, and 5 feet 9 inches high for a total cabin volume of 551 cubic feet. Typical seating includes five individual executive seats that can slide, swivel, and recline according to the passenger’s comfort, as well as a three-seat couch, with a curved, trenched center aisle down the middle. There’s a fully enclosed lavatory in the cabin’s rear.

One major improvement over the 800XP is the 850XP’s expanded in-cabin storage. There’s now a total of 50 cubic feet of baggage space in the Hawker 850XP’s cabin. Technology has improved to the point where avionics boxes that once took up space behind the cockpit have shrunk, meaning there’s now space for a 33-cubic-foot forward closet opposite the entry door—and by moving the couch position, the designers have allowed for more space in the rear baggage compartment, which measures 16.5 cubic feet.

PERFORMANCE

The Hawker 850XP is powered by two Honeywell TFE731-5BR engines, which enable the aircraft to reach speeds of up to 452kts and produce 4,660 pounds of thrust per engine. They’re the same tried and true engines on the 800XP, but pair them with the 850XP’s new drag-reducing winglets and you have a jet that can carry a greater payload and climb faster than its predecessor—the 850XP can climb to 39,000 feet a full two minutes faster than the 800XP.

The Hawker 850XP can cover a range of 2,525 nautical miles when flying with four passengers and NBAA reserves—around 100 more nautical miles than its predecessor—meaning it can handle trips like Teterboro to San Francisco or Moscow to Dubai. It’s reputation as a “flying tank” is well-deserved; the durable jet is rated to land on gravel and grass runways, putting even more remote locations within reach.

AVIONICS

The Hawker 850XP utilizes the Collins Pro Line 21 integrated avionics system, which displays information across four digital screens. The advanced all-digital system means there are fewer wires than on the 850XP’s predecessors. The suite includes navigation terrain awareness systems (TAWS), weather-reduced vertical separation minimum (RVSM), and enhanced ground proximity warning systems (EGPWS).
