From Catania, the drive up to Taormina is at first stark and unremarkable.

But a turn here and there and you find yourself on a trail of winding roads leading up to the small Sicilian town. Suddenly, the geography becomes majestic, classic movies style. The town tumbles down the side of Monte Taro and the views sweep along the coast and over to Mt. Etna, the notorious volcano. Far below are excellent beaches with clear blue seawater.
