The Golf Corner with Brian Mogg, Instructor to the Pros
Golf Magazine Top 100 Golf Instructor Brings You Strategies to Improve Your Game

Brian Moss Just like a pilot checks basic gauges on his dashboard before takeoff, a good player should also check the fundamentals of their grip before starting a swing. For a pilot to takeoff smoothly, the most basic details should be given much attention. The same goes for the golf swing as this will be much easier to accomplish.

Some "gauges" or fundamentals to check are:

  1. You should see two knuckles of the glove hand looking down from a normal setup position.
  2. Your non-glove hand should naturally hang and grip the club from the side as if you are shaking hands with the club.
  3. Both V's created between your thumb and index finger should point between your ear and shoulder of the non-glove hand.
  4. When you hold the club in front of you, your arms should feel loose and there should be no excess grip pressure.

Unless you would feel comfortable with your pilot taking off without checking his gauges, you should make sure to properly grip the club before hitting the runway and taking your game to the course!

The Viscount's Table: Viscount Perran Von Hoehen's Guide to the Good Things in Life
Jean Georges: Any Location in the World is a Great Choice for Valentine's Day

Jean Georges
Jean Georges is a Manhattan institution - effectively the best of the best. It is refined and elegant and (sorry, The Donald) could only be in a better location if it were in the Edwardian room of the Plaza. The Jean Georges family has grown, however, and now sports restaurants in some of the chicest places in the world. In December, while in New York to celebrate the Viscountess' birthday, we took the opportunity to visit the restaurant twice in Manhattan and we will shortly be attending the newest Jean Georges, Spice Market (yes, the same as in Manhattan), which opens on Valentine's Day, in London's new W hotel in Leicester Square.

Andaz 5th Avenue

Andaz 5th Avenue, the second Andaz property in New York and the fifth in the collection, is located in the heart of midtown Manhattan. The Andaz philosophy is that guests should feel free to express their personal style in an atmosphere that fully embraces its locale. Andaz 5th Avenue takes its design cues from its own midtown Manhattan neighborhood. Striking yet timeless interiors are designed by Tony Chi to be both loft-like and evocative of the city's century-old apartment residences. A sophisticated bar, a shop carrying artisanal products made by local purveyors, and peaceful guestrooms all reflect the Andaz credo of facilitating - not forcing - the guest experience.
