Magellan Jets Featured In
The Boston Business Journal
Despite recent turbulence, jet travel still makes sense
Boston Business Journal - by Keith Regan Special to the Journal
Already reeling from the recession, private jet travel took a blow to chin when executives from the Big Three automakers were chastised for winging their way to Washington, D.C., on corporate jets to ask for a federal bailout.
Still, for many businesses, the economics of private air travel continue to make sense. Private jets can travel to hundreds more airports not serviced by commercial flights and executives can city-hop in a way that flying in business class won't allow.
Businesses considering private air service or looking to change the way they arrange for private jet travel are finding a marketplace with an ample supply of jet trips available. Insiders advise businesses to start by knowing their private air travel needs upfront.
"This whole business has gotten a bad rap over last 10 years, with people thinking private flying is for celebrities jetting off to Vegas to have fun," said Joshua Hebert, CEO of Quincy-based Magellan Jets. "That's a very small percentage of the business. It has really segued into a business tool for a lot of companies."
Magellan is a relatively young company that is finding growth in part by converting former fractional jet owners into users of its service. Fractional ownership has lost some luster in recent months because of the capital that must be tied up. By comparison, the jet-card option, in which hours on a specific plane are purchased upfront, can be a more economical option. Traditional charter services, in which a broker or other third party is used to arrange a flight on a plane put into the charter pool by its owner, round out the private jet travel options.

Gulfstream PlaneView Advanced Cockpit Kevin O'Leary - Jet Advisors
Gulfstream Aerospace and Honeywell have converged to introduce a technologically-advanced integrated avionics system that will be featured in the G350, G450, G500 and G550 models. Primus Epic avionics suite for Gulfstream's PlaneView Advanced Cockpit is primarily focused on improvements in pilot performance and safety. With many upgrades and improvements on older programs, Primus Epic gives Gulfstream a big competitive advantage. The cockpit's displays consist of four 10x13 inch flat panel, LCD screens. Unlike older systems, all primary parameters are displayed on a single primary flight display (PFD) for a more organized and efficient presentation. Another improved feature of the Primus Epic suite is INAV, the first interactive navigation system. INAV allows pilots to interact with the flight plan by selecting-and-clicking options such as "direct to" locations and "add" or "delete" routes, waypoints or arrivals/departures. Pilots are able to zoom, pan and split screens for more convenient viewing. INAV renders in real-time for improved situational awareness.

FAA Anounces Plan to Enhance Safety
for New York Airspace
FAA Washington Headquarters Press Release
WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is planning to modify the airspace over the Hudson River by revising procedures to create safe, dedicated operating corridors for all the aircraft that fly at lower altitudes around Manhattan.
"The New York Airspace Task Force chartered on August 14 developed a comprehensive series of recommendations that we plan to implement as quickly as possible," said FAA Administrator Randy Babbitt. "These steps will significantly enhance safety in this busy area and create crystal-clear rules for all of the pilots who operate there."
The safety enhancements would restructure the airspace, mandate pilot operating rules, create a new entry point into the Hudson River airspace from Teterboro, standardize New York area charts and develop new training for pilots, air traffic controllers and businesses that operate helicopters and aircraft in the area.
One of the most significant changes, if adopted, would divide the airspace into altitude corridors that separate aircraft flying over the river from those operating to and from local heliports or seaplane bases.
Specifically, this new exclusionary zone would be comprised of three components:
It would establish a uniform "floor" for the Class B airspace over the Hudson River at 1,300 feet, which would also serve as the "ceiling" for the exclusionary zone.
