Olympic Blog

The summer Olympic Games, set to take place in London this July, will draw thousands from around the world to support participants from their respective countries. The city will be charged with an electric pulse powered by the anticipation of exciting matchups amongst the world’s elite athletes. The games occur in conjunction with London’s busiest tourist season; which guarantees that airports will be busy and hotel rooms will be hard to come by. Today, February 1st, marks the first day to book Olympic Game arrival and departure slots at London City airport, located three miles from the city’s financial district. The United Kingdom employs tightened security restrictions for non-scheduled aircraft flying into London and its surrounding airports. Local authorities have allocated slots for 10,000 aircraft movements for the duration of the games. Although this number is 40% higher than normal, the slots will rapidly deplete and those interested in traveling to London for the Olympics are encouraged to book sooner rather than later.

Magellan Jets, the leading provider of private aircraft for the summer Olympic Games, represents an impressive fleet of equipment that can accommodate travel groups of any size. Depart from nearly anywhere in the world, travel on the most sophisticated aircraft available and arrive in London well-rested and greeted planeside by your driver. Affordable and Flexible 10 Hour Private Jet Card

Airplanes are not flying machines, they are time machines, and time is perhaps the most precious commodity a company can have. The opportunistic cost of wasting time can severely impact your bottom line and ultimately affect the relationships with your customers, suppliers and/or distributors. Consider the time it takes a person to fly between Boston and New York City on a traditional commercial airline. After accounting for ground transportation, checking-in at least 45 minutes early, and going through security; the minutes can quickly add-up to the driving time between the two cities. Private aviation is the ultimate business tool in the true sense of the word. Meetings in multiple cities, quick regional flights and same day travel are all possible with a private jet.

Magellan Jets is pleased to announce to northeast flyers the “Business Travel Jet Card”, employing the brand-new Eclipse500 “very light jet” (VLJ). The Eclipse500 is ideal for executive travel needs, small sales teams or treating your customers to a stylish ride. This 10 hour card can be purchased for the competitive price of $34,950, allowing three adults to privately travel below the cost of a first-class ticket. The Business Travel Jet Card comes standard with all the perks of owing a small private jet without the headaches involved with insurance, maintenance and storage. Private aviation is superior to any existing means of transportation by way of efficiency, flexibility and above all, speed. Contact Magellan Jets today and plan your next business trip on the safe, reliable and comfortable Eclipse500.

Solar-Flare Disrupts Flights Around the World

Weather delays are inevitable realities that disrupt our travel plans sometimes to the point of cancellation. Typically, Dallas, Miami and New York are places to encounter thunderstorms, hurricanes and blizzards, respectively. However, when was the last time your flight was delayed due to happenings beyond the confides of earth? You may ask yourself, what weather could possibly exist beyond the reaches of the atmosphere? The answer does not come from a science-fiction screenplay or book about alien encounters. The answer is a rare and widely unknown phenomenon called “solar-flare”, and its effects can be potentially hazardous to airplanes. Solar-flare occurs when parts of the sun “flare” outward into the solar system. When these flares come close to earth they can harm satellites, impact power grids, and affect aircraft communication and navigation equipment.

Several trans-arctic flights between Asia and North America were re-routed this morning as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of the passengers. Some flights suffered minor delays as a result of the re-routing; however, no flights were harmed during the event. Whether it is a blizzard, tornado, solar-flare, or the most vicious workings of Mother Nature, Magellan Jets’ dedicated concierge team is ready 24/7 to quickly handle any variable that may impact your trip. On a traditional airline, weather creates a logistical nightmare and the focus quickly shifts from the passenger to the operational needs of the airline. At Magellan Jets, the focus is always on you, the client, and we will stop at nothing to make sure a weather anomaly is but a minor wrinkle in an otherwise seamless journey aboard one of our jets.

Bell Helicopter May Release New Products Based on Recent Trademark Filings

In late December, Bell Helicopter Textron made several filings with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. The trademarks were said to be for “Magellan,” “525SMT” and “407GT.” This has instigated much speculation around the development and upcoming release of new products. The perfect opportunity for this announcement would be this February in Dallas, Texas, at the Helicopter Association International Heli-Expo.

Insiders seem to think that Magellan could become the new brand for a future family of helicopters. Private jet charter company, Magellan Jets, is excited about the possibility of having a “namesake” in the helicopter market. Magellan Jets has helicopters available world-wide and delivers uncompromised safety, guaranteeing that they only fly with two pilots and ensure that they have twin engines. Magellan Jets clients take advantage of helicopter services regularly. Short, convenient trips from NYC to The Hamptons in the summer as well as site-seeing on the California coast are among the most popular destinations.

Currently, Bell Helicopter Textron has a medium-twin 412; perhaps the 525SMT will be the larger take on this model. Competitors would likely be aiming at the oil and gas markets. Lastly, the 407GT is said to reminiscent of the big single Bell has, but with a larger and more advanced engine.

Bombardier%27s Learjet 85 resized 600                                                                                                                                                Bombardier has recently released the news that they will be expanding their aircraft manufacturing hub in Wichita, Kansas. This is good news for the Learjet facility, which has not seen much development in the past few years. Bombardier Business Aircraft president Steve Ridolfi and the governor of Kansas, Sam Brownback announced the expansion plans on January 10. The plan includes the improvement of the flight-test center, based in Wichita. Additionally, they are establishing a center of excellence for engineering and information technology. Bombardier is also looking to add facilities for paint and production flight-testing. Lastly, they will institute an aircraft delivery center.

The state of Kansas has offered $16 million as incentive to create more jobs for their residents. Bombardier is already spending $600 million, which is going to the production of the Learjet 85 and Wichita facilities. They are predicting the Learjet 85 to be in service next year. The expansion will hopefully create 450 new jobs, in the next 10 years.

On Thursday, January 5, 2012, private jet company, Magellan Jets was the exclusive title sponsor in the Fourth Annual Magellan Jets Waldorf Astoria Open. This PGA team event was held at The Waldorf Astoria GC in Orlando, Florida. This event involved many top players off of the PGA Tour. The participants were thrilled to be playing on the challenging 18-hole Rees Jones-designed championship course which winds through a large wetland preserve and measuring 7108 yards with a Par 72, Slope 139, and 74.6 rating from its Professional Tees. On the day of the tournament, the majestic pine and cypress trees lining the fairways glistened in the sun, making it a beautiful and memorable day for everyone present.

In an exciting finish at the tournament, Chris DiMarco shot a 6 under par and course record 66 on his own ball and partnered with fellow University of Florida alum, Billy Horschel, to win the 4th annual Magellan Jets Waldorf Astoria Open.  Chris who has been runner up in the Masters and was the hero of the 2005 Presidents Cup, shot 5 under on the front nine and together they finished strong as each player made a 20' putt on the 18th hole to win by two shots over last year’s champions, Sam Saunders (Arnold Palmer's grandson) and EJ Cole. Englishman Brian Davis (runner up at 2011 Hilton Head PGA Tour event) and Greg Owen finished in 3rd place.

After having spent 10 years at Keene's Pointe running the Brian Mogg Performance Center, Brian Mogg is now the Director of Instruction at the Waldorf Astoria GC. The move to the WAGC in April 2011 has been a positive one. DA Points won his first PGA Tour event at the AT&T Pebble Beach tournament in February. This was the 22nd win by a Tour player who works with the BMPC since 2001 on one of the major Tours. Brian Mogg reflected on the tournament stating, "It was great to see Chris shoot a course record and Chris/Billy birdie the last 2 holes to win the tournament. The pros had a great day, the Waldorf was in amazing shape and everyone appreciated Magellan's support.”

Man Shows Scanned Passport on iPad When Entering the U.S.

Passport on iPad

When preparing to cross the border into the United States, travelers are prepared with their various forms of identification – most notably, their passport. This stringent requirement was recently tweaked for a Montreal photographer coming to the U.S. to deliver holiday gifts in Vermont. Martin Reisch, 33, forgot his passport at home and was able to get past the Customs and Border Protection guards by showing them his driver’s license and a scanned copy of his passport on his iPad. Reisch reflected on the moment he handed the guard his iPad, saying that “there was a slight hesitation; he didn’t really seem like he was impressed”. Although there was the great chance that he would be turned away, Reisch was allowed to pass through. While this event is an exciting development, the U.S. Customs and Border Protection agency has confirmed that its policy is to not accept scanned images of passports.

This exception has proven to be a breakthrough for iPhones and technology. Apps seem to be taking over and replacing the longer processes of yesterday. Today people use their iPhone apps for everything – from handling personal finance to travel. Private jet company, Magellan Jets, has recently released a brand new Private Jet Search app. Clients can conveniently search one-way and round-trip options, book and sign for their trip in minutes! Many people are now questioning if we are about to enter an age where paper forms of ID are not necessary and are digitalized instead. Do you think that a complete transfer to relying on digitized documents is a secure plan for our future travel policies?

FAA Announces New Pilot Duty Rule; Exception of Cargo Carriers

Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood

On December 21 in Washington, D.C., the FAA announced a new, more stringent rule on pilot flight duty and rest requirements for passenger carriers operating under Part 121. When Colgan Air Flight 3407 crashed near Buffalo nearly three years ago, attention was cast upon the working conditions of regional airline pilots. This led to the stricter rule which requires pilots to have a minimum of 10 hours of rest before each flight duty period, which is an increase of two hours over previous rules. Additionally, the final rule limits the number of hours a pilot can fly weekly and monthly. Lastly, it extends the length of consecutive hours off in a seven-day period from 24 to 30. Before each and every mission, the pilot needs to sign off on a form saying that they are stable and capable of safely flying the aircraft. If the pilot is ever too fatigued to fly, it is their responsibility to let the carrier know.

The only exception to this new regulation is all-cargo carriers. The reason which was given stated that “their compliance costs significantly exceed the quantified societal benefits.” FAA officials have disclosed that the projected cost for cargo operations is $306 million (with one fatal all-cargo accident costing anywhere between $20 and $32 million). This exception has caused an uproar from flight safety organizations who have challenged the FAA with a petition to review this rule in the U.S. Court of Appeals.
