A buzzing city where one can explore exceptional museums, listen to fine classical music, enjoy a boat ride along the river Spree and take in some of Europe’s sleekest architecture.

The German capital also hosts the acclaimed Berlinale: Berlin International Film Festival Running from February 9 to 19 in 2012, the 62nd Film Festival offers an impressive variety of film genres, from commercial to independent and eclectic.

One of the many highlights of the festival will be Meryl Streep’s receipt of the Honorary Golden Bear award, which is the highest prize a film or individual can receive.

In addition, Angelina Jolie will be presenting her directorial debut of her film In the Land of Blood and Honey, the first weekend of the festival.

Gourmands shouldn't miss dining at the distinguished Hugo’s Restaurant, home of Michelin-starred chef Thomas Kammeier. One of Berlin's master chefs, Kammeier is well known for his inventive cuisine, and his restaurant is aptly set on the 14th floor of the Hotel InterContinental, complete with stunning views over Tiergarten. Be prepared for an evening of pure indulgence.

If you are looking for something a little more intimate, understated and romantic, try Goldener Hahn, famed for its delectable Italian. Once inside, you'll be wishing this charming restaurant was in your neighborhood. Expect fresh, home-style flavors and generous, belt-busting servings. Buon appetito!
