A Hong Kong businessman who traveled via private jet to Teterboro airport ended up being defrauded for more than $800,000 thanks to an unscrupulous limousine driver.

Tony Chan, the wealth Feng Shui master from Hong Kong, hired a limousine to take him from Teterboro airport to a meeting in New York City. The problem started when he gave his American Express card to the driver, Peter Rahhaoui, of Flushing, Queens, who copied the card and proceeded to go on a months-long spending spree racking up hundreds of thousands in unnoticed fraudulent charges.

Mr. Chan, apparently too busy to check through his charge card statements, knew nothing of the scheme until American Express security specialists noticed a suspicious pattern of activity months later. Rahhaoui's spending spree sometimes hit $19,000 in one month. Prosecutors stated that the tally of unauthorized charges totalled $794,986.

Economic Stability Yields Increased Private Jet Charter

Private Jet Charters

As the American economy slowly begins to stabilize, leaders in the corporate world are gravitating towards private jet travel once again. Elevated confidence concerning respective company values seem to be coaxing executives to recognize private jet charter as a comfortable risk. Chartering a private aircraft is the quintessential choice in today’s market. The other two options would be sustaining a corporate fleet, or flying commercially. Maintaining a corporate fleet is seen as a liability; costs run very high. This has caused executives to shirk away from signing off on a payment that is extravagant and unnecessary. Airline travel on the other hand, dodges the price factor, but runs right into other issues. Airlines can produce delays, lost luggage, etc., all of which are taxing. Private jet travel is the happy medium being yearned for.

This has clearly been validated within the past year, total business jet flights, privately owned and charter, rose 7 percent to 2.84 million in the 12-month period through September. A significant amount of the growth was through overseas travel, according to data tracked by the Federal Aviation Administration FAA.L. A prime example of the recent boom of private jet travel has been executed this month by General Motors. The company which was recently floundering returned to chartering jets this month when visiting investor’s. This development succeeds the 2008 occurrence when GM, Ford Motor Co, and Chrysler Group were reprimanded for corporate jet use. With the economy crumbling, lawmakers were provoked to question the acceptability of private jet travel. This concern is a moot point now that companies are reveling in financial success once again. It is fair to say that private jet charter has found its niche in today’s market.

French President buys £150 Million Private Plane

Aviation News

This is not 18th Century France, and Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette are not in power, yet many French citizens are so infuriated with their President that they are tempted to bring out the guillotine. President of France, Nicolas Sarkozy is currently being criticized for purchasing a new luxury plane. Tension is running high as Sarkozy boarded his £150 Million private jet yesterday for the first time, heading to South Korea for the G20 summit.

Dubbed the Air Sarko One, the new jet is fitted with a double bedroom, an air-conditioned smoking room, and an anti-missile system. The double bedroom with its en-suite bathroom is reported to be directly behind the cockpit. The bedroom links to a private office where an air filter system allows the president to smoke cigars. There is also a conference room equipped with top of line communication equipment and technology. Close to the back of the plane there are 60 club-class seats for ministers, aides, and favored journalists traveling with the president. And at the “far” back of the plane there are an additional 12 seats, economy class for cabin crew.

As France battles an economic recession, opposing politicians have expressed their disproval publicly, stating that the new plane is “too flashy”.  Government officials have supported the purchase of the plane, insisting that the Airbus A330 was a necessary expense.

Conflicting views leave many wondering if preventative measures should be instilled to avoid government officials overspending in the future. Do you think something needs to be done to ensure that money is being saved rather than squandered?

Bigger, faster, and better! It's a lot of people's motto. Owning a jet is a big accomplishment for any individual, let alone a large luxury jet like a Gulfstream.

New Orleans native Tyler Perry, producer, director, and actor who earned a whopping $125 million last year for his work, recently purchased a Gulfstream III. However, Perry’s jet is no ordinary Gulfstream--it has a brand new custom screening room! The Gulfstream III has a 42-inch HD LCD screen installed (the largest of its kind to ever be installed on a Gulfstream). The system is fully equipped with multiple Blu-ray players, satellite TV, theater lighting, and electronically controlled window shades. Just choose the movie you like, kick back, and relax while you cruise comfortably cross-country at 41,000 feet. Also installed on board the jet are iPod docking stations for music, ports for computer video, and additional 20-inch and 10.2-inch personal HD screens.
