New iPhone 5 Connector Makes Problems for Aircraft Owners

Note: This post is brought to you courtesy of Flight Display Systems

The world is abuzz with the launch of Apple’s iPhone 5. But for companies that manufacture aircraft iPhone accessories, the two most challenging changes are the new “Lightning” connector and the new, taller form-factor of the phone. Aircraft owners will have to make sure that existing iPhone accessories will be compatible with the new Apple devices and adapters.

About the new Lightning Connector from Apple
Lightning is a new all digital, eight-signal connector used on the new iPhone 5, fifth generation iPod Touch and seventh generation iPod Nano. Like the old 30-pin connector, the Lightning port can be used for various functions, including charging the iPod or iPhone, syncing data and outputting audio to another device.

Lightning is considered an improvement because it is thinner, thus allowing new devices to be less bulky. With the iPhone 5, it allows Apple to include larger speakers for more volume output. The Lightning connector is also far more durable than the previous connector, which was often damaged when users would inadvertently plug it in backwards. Lightning is reversible, meaning there is little chance that the plug will be damaged when connecting it to the device.

Adapters from Apple
Adapters start at $19 for the Lightning to USB Cable, $29 for the Lightning adapter and $39 for the Lightning-to-30-pin connector cable. The adapters won't necessarily support all functions, particularly iPod out and video out. The new adapters only support analog audio output, USB audio, syncing and charging. Lightning-to-VGA and Lightning-to-HDMI cables will be available later, but for now, users won’t be able to connect the iPhone or iPod to an external display or TV to view videos or photos using the adapters.

Aircraft iPhone Docking Stations and Cable Adapters from Flight Display Systems
Here’s a rundown of how the new Apple offerings will affect products from Flight Display Systems.

  • iPod and iPhone Docking Station (FDIPD-MD Ver 2) — The new iPhone 5 and iPod Touch are too large to fit in this docking station, with or without the required adapter.
  • iPod and iPhone Cable Adapters (FDMEDPLR-3, FDMEDPLR-3QR) — These products will require the Lightning adapter to work with the iPhone 5 and the fifth generation iPod Touch. According to Apple, the Lightning connecter will not support analog video. Based on currently available information, charging and audio output should still be supported.

Please note that current iPads are not affected, however all new Apple personal entertainment devices will likely use the Lightning connector for the foreseeable future.

Apple's Highly Anticipated iPhone 5 Release

Apple iPhone 5

2011 came and went without the release of the iPhone 5. The suspense has been building, and most are convinced that we will see Apple unveil their new product by the end of the year. The new iPhone will be completely different in design.  It has been speculated that the iPhone 5 will be slightly longer. Photos that have been leaked showcase bigger speaker grills, a 4.5 inch screen and a two-toned back brushed with aluminum. In May 2011, a company called Digitimes released information saying that Apple could be creating a glass screen which would be curved. This was due to the fact that Apple had purchased between 200 and 300 special glass cutting machines. The dock port is rumored to be smaller; featuring a 19 pin connector on its base, rather than the typical 30 pin seen on all products Apple has released to date. Lastly, since the new iPad came out with 4G, it is expected that it will be on the iPhone 5 as well. Whatever the case may be regarding the new iPhone 5’s functionality and appearance; do not forget to download the Magellan Jets Private Jet Search iPhone app right away. You can search for a jet, book and sign e-contracts quickly and in the palm of your hand!

Magellan Jets Launches an International Private Jet Search iPhone App: Search, Book and Sign for a Trip in Minutes on Your iPhone or iPad!

PJS App

Magellan Jets, a leading aircraft charter broker, announces the launch of its Private Jet Search iPhone application for private jet bookings. For years, people have been able to search for commercial flights on a variety of websites, making travel that much more convenient and cost effective. For the reasonable price of $4.99, private jet travelers can download the app through iTunes. The app allows users to search, book and sign for a charter in a matter of minutes from the convenience of their iPhone or iPad anytime, anywhere. Magellan Jets recognizes the need for more flexibility and accessibility in the market of private jet travel and this app allows for instant quoting, linked to live market information and thousands of aircraft and airports worldwide.

The Private Jet Search app is truly a business tool which executives can take advantage of without needing any assistance in making their private travel arrangements. While this is the case, it is available for business and pleasure alike. Travelers can search both one way and round trip options based on their desired destination, departure/return date, aircraft option and passenger count.

Once this information is entered, the app uses real-time technology to pull up every aircraft available, along with the competitive pricing. This innovative search engine cuts the time it takes to search for aircraft availability, while adding the ease of portability and anytime access.

“The Private Jet Search app is a revolutionary tool,” says Joshua Hebert, CEO of Magellan Jets. “It will provide the instant gratification and savings our clients have been yearning for, which is an incredible thing.”

Due to the fact that this is an international app, there is a currency converter available to those who are flying outside of the U.S. High-resolution interior and exterior photos are provided for each aircraft as well, and may be viewed on the flight details page. The estimated flight time and any fuel stops are also shown, giving the client the full scope of what the trip will entail.

The Private Jet Search app also features a GPS- based search to help find the nearest airport. In addition, customers can view the trip leg through Google Maps. The application allows for personalized requests to be sent to Magellan Jets regarding the requested trip, which will be carried out by a dedicated Magellan Jets charter specialist, available 24/7/365.

The level of personalization does not stop there. A list of favorite airports can be saved to streamline the process, which will save customers’ valuable time searching. In addition to this practical solution, there is an ingenious “tip a friend” function which allows customers the opportunity to find a flight and send the option to their friend so that they can see the same aircraft.

Magellan Jets has also begun using state-of-the-art technology which simplifies the booking process by allowing clients to confirm bookings from their computers, iPhones or iPads. Once a client is ready to book a trip on the app, Magellan Jets is now able to e-mail the contract so that the client can sign with their finger on the touch screen of their iPhone or iPad. This has made private jet charter even more seamless and hassle-free than ever before.

Magellan Jets Attends NBAA 2011 in Las Vegas

NBAA Las VegasFrom October 10-12, 2011, Magellan Jets proudly attended NBAA’s (National Business Aviation Association) conference which was held in Las Vegas, Nevada. For the aviation industry insiders, this annual event is imperative to attend for both networking and educational purposes alike. As a business tool, this convention yields amazing results for well-respected operators and industry specialists to unite. Buying decisions are weighed and executed at the NBAA and the relationships formed set the stage for the upcoming year. Magellan Jets spent the first day on the convention floor, interacting with exhibitors and other attendees. On Tuesday, they moved onto the Static Display of Aircraft at Henderson Executive Airport where the latest aircraft models were present for the attendees to view and explore.

CEO of Magellan Jets, Joshua Hebert, and Anthony Tivnan, President of Magellan Jets, spent their time meeting with the press. They provided the media with updates on Magellan Jets and their hopes for the coming year. Recently, Magellan Jets announced their plan to provide students and families in China with private jet transportation to the U.S., elite concierge services and top-tier medical expertise. Mr. Hebert was able to give insight on Magellan Jets’ expansion into the Chinese market, “We are thrilled to be able to enter into the private aviation market in China,” says Magellan Jets CEO, Joshua Hebert. “We would like to be the trusted source of establishing Chinese students and families.”

Mr. Tivnan specifically spoke about the Magellan Jets One-Way Leg Search (OWL) app which is now available on your iPhone and iPad. With this revolutionary app, you are able to search, select and book empty leg flights in the palm of your hand. Magellan Jets has implemented the use of a new technology called DocuSign. With DocuSign, clients can review their contract on their iPhone and sign with their finger on their touch screen. The contract is e-mailed back to Magellan Jets and the trip has been booked, hassle free. This seamless scenario has made flying privately with Magellan Jets ultra-appealing.  “O.W.L. Search provides the instant gratification our clients have been yearning for, which is an incredible thing,” says company President, Anthony Tivnan.

The 2011 NBAA Convention was an incredible experience for all members of Magellan Jets. While the trip was filled with fun and networking for company members, it was a great way to showcase Magellan’s latest endeavors. Magellan Jets’ introduction of their iPhone app, fused with the technology of DocuSign and their entry into the Chinese market garnered attention and respect from peers in the industry and truly positioned Magellan as a leader amongst private charter brokers.

Apple Announces iPad 2, Release Date March 11

Apple announces the iPad 2

You knew it was coming. The next “it” gadget from Apple debuted today, as Steve Jobs returned from medical leave this afternoon to debut the new iPad 2. To much fanfare, Jobs sported his usual turtleneck and jeans look to present an emotional keynote speech on the impact the world’s first volume-produced tablet has brought. Coined as “the year of the iPad”, 2010 provided us with the debut of the gadget that blew open the tablet niche. Moving into “2011, the year of the iPad 2”, Jobs explained how the new tablet changes everything, substantially improving upon key features the original version lacked.

With an incredibly thin profile (thinner than the new iPhone 4), and decreased weight, the new iPad 2 will run on a dual core, A5 processor, greatly improving the performance of the already quick tablet series from Apple. Sporting customer’s most requested addition, the iPad2 will have both forward and rear facing cameras, paired alongside FaceTime, allowing users to video chat any FaceTime user on an iPad 2, iPhone or iTouch. Amazingly enough, all these upgrades have been crammed into a smaller, lighter body, while still maintaining an impressive 10 hour battery life. And at the same price points as the older, original iPad, the iPad 2 will be a formidable opponent for the new Motorola Xoom, running on Android.

overview smartcover gallery2 20110302 resized 600

Additionally, with an intuitive, folding, “smart” cover, the iPad 2’s usability has increased significantly over its predecessors. By propping up the iPad for eased viewing angles and increasingly hands free operations, the magnetic, self-centering cover will help users make the most out of their iPad. And ease of use is great news for any user of the Magellan Jets One Way Leg Search Ap. As expected, O.W.L. Search will work as smoothly as ever on the new iPad 2, as well as the newly announced iOS 4.3. Click here for more information on Magellan Jets’ unique, live-updated O.W.L. Search App.
